HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY (SPY WEDNESDAY) HOLY WEEK YEAR A

Isaiah 50:4-9; Psalm 68; Matthew 26:14-25

The reading from Isaiah reflects the pains of Jesus and his unshakable confidence in God.The Psalm is of a man in great distress who calls on God for help against his enemies. In the gospel Judas accepted 30 silver pieces and betrayed Jesus. Thus the name “Spy Wednesday.” There is something of Judas in each one of us. We all know what we have done because of money. Lord, have mercy for we have sinned against you.

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
