HOMILY FOR SATURDAY: SIXTH WEEK OF EASTER

Acts 18:23-28; Psalm 47; John 16:23-28

In the first reading we are presented with Paul’s third missionary journey and how he went about strengthening all the disciples. Suddenly, a Jew showed up Apollos by name, well versed in the Scriptures yet was open to the guidance of Priscilla and Aquila. A good speaker is a good listener. Thus, Jesus in the gospel reassured us about prayer. A good prayer involves speaking and listening under the authority of his name. “Ask in my name”, Jesus says. Lord as we ask today in your name; teach us to listen and accept your response.

Let us pray

Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heartI embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
