HOMILY FOR FRIDAY: THE FIFTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

ISAIAH 38:1-6, 21-22, 7-8; PSALM 38; MATTHEW 12:1-8

In the first reading Isaiah told Hezekiah, King of Judah that he is about to die and so Hezekiah prayed. The Lord heard his prayer and added fifteen years to his life. Let us trust in the efficacy of prayer. In the Gospel, Jesus admonished the Pharisees for being too legalistic about the Sabbath day. What the Lord wants is mercy and not legalism for only in mercy is true faith to be seen. Law is good but for Jesus all laws must serve the law of love. God bless you!

PRAYER FOR THE SICK

Almighty God,you know that we are surrounded by many great dangers, and because of our human frailty we cannot withstand them. Divine physician and healer of the sick, we turn to you in this time of illness. Give us health of mind and body, make us victorious and whole through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
