Jeremiah 14:17-22; Psalm 79; Matthew 13:36-43
The Gospel reading of today presents us with the parable of the Weeds: This parable shows that there are hostile and aggressive powers working in the world; seeking and waiting to destroy good seeds. 1Pet. 5: 8 says “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” We must be awake spiritually to ensure no one comes to plant evil in our faith, in our heart, in our family, in our children, in our church, and in our schools. Again, this parable also calls us to patience for judgment belongs to God. At the close of the age, he shall throw the wicked to Hell. Therefore, just as the people gathered for a penitential service in Jerusalem in the first reading; we must equally repent and ask God for mercy.
REPENTANCE PRAYER
Dear God, please forgive me of any wicked act that I have involved myself. I am sorry for every evil act that I have committed. I repent from all my wickedness today, and I will never return to them again! I am now determined to do things rightly. I will exercise adequate and impartial judgments; I will not exploit anyone for my selfish gain; I will treat people under my watch fairly and equally. I will be contented with whatever I have, and I will not be envious of others. Help me to be honest in dealing with you and other people, so that it can be well with me throughout the days of my life through Christ our Lord. Amen.
