HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY  TWENTY-FIRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

2 THESSALONIANS 3:6-10, 16-18; PSALM 128; MATTHEW 23:27-32

************

In the Gospel we are presented with Christ’s attack against hypocrisy. The scribes and Pharisees give the outward appearance of holy men but inside of them are full of evil. Often times we are not different from these hypocrites; we pretend and behave like angels but in our private corners we are demons. Precisely because of this St Paul tells us in the first reading that we must earn the bread we eat. We should not presume that we will automatically get into heaven but should earn our place in the kingdom.

Let us pray

We pray that the eyes of our hearts be made clear, so that we may be aware of the inconsistencies in our thoughts and in our actions. We ask for pardon for all our hypocrisies, and pray for those who suffer because of our weaknesses and bad examples.
