Isaiah 11:1-10; Ps. 72, Eph. 2:13-22, Matt.2:13-15, 19-23
The angels are delivered messages from God throughout the infancy narratives. We might think of our own guardian angel, whose role is ‘to light, to guard, to rule and to guide’ us. Today, Nigeria as a nation is 60. The journey thus far has been very tough and rough! The road is still zigzagged into the future as the termites continue to torture. Angels have been sent through various policies and ministries, solutions abound; but the angels are placed out of bound.
Beloved, in gospel Joseph was the one taking instructions on how to respond as events unfolded and so, having to put his faith in whatever direction he was given. Joseph represents our fathers and leaders today. How do they respond to inspirations? To what extent have they accepted their responsibilities with faith and trust? It is our fathers’ land; but these fathers have abandoned their responsibilities. The labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain; but the gain is siphoned by greedy men.
In the face of this giant challenges; the first reading and the psalm presented us with words of faith, hope and trust. Again, if we must excel let us imitate Mary in her virtues of docility humility, obedient, charity and faith. We pray that like Mary, the Church in our nation may discern and consent to the plan of God for us as a nation. We equally pray that Nigeria will be well again. Mary help of Christians, Health of the sick and Refuge of sinners, prayer for us.
