HOMILY FOR FRIDAY THE TWENTY-EIGHTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Ephesians 1:11-14; Psalm 33; Luke 12:1-7

Paul tells us in the first reading that we have been stamped with the seal of the Holy Spirit. The seal is placed as a proprietary mark on something. By the gift of the Holy Spirit at Baptism, God marks us out as his own property. Precisely because of this, the gospel reading makes us to understand that all we do is known to God who knows us intimately. It says: “Nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known.” Instead of the hypocrisy of the Pharisees which hides the truth, the disciples should be sincere. We pray that the Holy Spirit will help us so that all we do in secret will be in accordance to God’s will.

Let us pray

Lord, our help and guide, make your love the foundation of our lives. May our love for you express itself in our eagerness to do good for others. You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
