HOMILY FOR TUESDAY 31ST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME (ST MARTIN DE PORRES, MEMORIAL)

PHILIPPIANS 2:5-11; PSALM 22; LUKE 14:15-24

This is a parable about the Kingdom of God; a parable that expresses God plan for the salvation of all men. This parable makes us to understand that we are all invited to God’s kingdom and that this invitation is a serious matter. Beloved in Christ, through the Church we have all been invited. But then, how have we responded? The gospel categorized our responses according to the behaviour expressed by those who were invited in the parable. Some refused the invitation; some violently opposed the invitation and another was not clothed in the proper garment. Beloved, what shall separate us from the Kingdom of God? In the first reading, Paul speaks about the great sacrifice Christ made in order to become one like us. Given his great sacrifice how can we fail to make sacrifices to attain his kingdom?

Let us pray

Gracious God, grant us open minds and open hearts to honour your invitation to enter into your Kingdom. Through the power of our Holy Spirit help us to resist the forces that militate against this sacred call and may we have the courage to face life’s challenges and the resilience to remain faithful to you. Amen.
