DAY 5 (Jacob)
Gen.32:24-28
“So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” The man asked him, “What is your name?” “Jacob,” he answered. Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”
MEDITATION
Jacob’s life is a story of a transformed man, who, from a deceiver became a believer. He moved from sin to grace. Looking at his early life, it is very easy to hate him for being an opportunist, conspirator, manipulative, and liar. Jacob and Esau are twin brothers. Through deceit and trickery, Jacob acquired not only the birthright of Esau but also his blessing. Though Jacob was destined by God to be greater than his brother Esau; rather than waiting for the fulfillment of this divine plan Jacob used deceptive means to actualize his plan. The conversion came from the moment when he had his encounter – his wrestling encounter with God (Genesis 32:24-29)

- Lessons:
- Never ever commit the mistake of believing that you will be able to cheat the law of cause and effect. Jacob struggled over many things he had to even labour for 14 years to get a wife of his choice. Galatians 6:7 tells us, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” This is applicable to everyone and Jacob had his own. Christians are also subject to the law of cause and effect. Every action you take be it good or bad, will eventually yield an effect.
- Do not be thrown off balance if God allows a portion of your journey to come down the hard way. We learn from Jacob’s life that sometimes God wants things to transpire the hard way. We must persevere until the very end Jacob is the man popularly known as the man who wrestled with God. The Bible said that a “Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day” (Genesis 32:24).
- Encounter is a necessary key for genuine conversion and a track record for onward spiritual growth. Jacob’s encounter brought change in his name and destiny. What encounter have we today?
- Jacob prayed and he equally asked for blessing “I will not let you go unless you bless me”. Whenever you come to the Lord as him to bless you and bring your life and destiny to fuller manifestation.

PRAYER FOR FULFILLING GOD’S PURPOSE
Dear Gracious God, you made me to understand from Jer.1:5 that even before I was conceived in my Mother’s womb, you knew me and planned before hand what I will be in life. You also reminded us in Eph 2:10 that we are your handwork, created in Christ Jesus to fulfill the purpose for which you brought us into the world. Help me now, Oh Lord to discover and fulfill your purpose for my life in Jesus’ name, Amen.

O Precious Blood of our salvation, we believe, hope and trust in You. Deliver all those that are in the hands of the infernal spirits we beseech You.
