HOMILY FOR THURSDAY THE THIRTY-FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II

APOCALYPSE 18:1-2, 21-23, 19:1-3, 9; PSALM 100; LUKE 21:20-28

God’s judgment is true and just. In the first reading we read the echoes of the Angels “Fallen is Babylon the great!” The assembly of heaven rendered hymn of praise to God for the punishment and destruction of the City of Babylon. Babylon was judged for her evil, harlot, and corruption in the world. Beloved, this will be the fate of all those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb but wouldn’t respond. In the Gospel Jesus foretells the destruction of Jerusalem for their lack of faith and perseverance. This simply foretells our eternal destruction if we don’t persevere in faith. The terrifying and frightening signs rather than scare us should make us realize the urgent need to stand firm and draw near to God.

Let us pray

Lord Jesus, I for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite you to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior. Help me to over the trials of the present world so that my soul can be preserved for eternity. Amen.
