HOMILY FOR TUESDAY THE FIRST WEEK OF ADVENT YEAR B

Isaiah 11:1-10, 11-14; Psalm 72; Luke 10:21-24

Isaiah speaks of an offspring of Jesse who will be king and who will rule with God’s blessing. In his reign there will be peace and prosperity. On him shall rest the Spirit of the Lord who will bring him wisdom and insight, counsel and power, knowledge and fear of the Lord. Justice shall flourish in his days! Jesus is the fulfilment of this prophecy. Luke’s Gospel affirms this; Jesus filled with the Holy Spirit said everything has been entrusted to me by the Father and that the only way to know the Father is through the Son. Therefore, if we must manifest justice, peace and properity we must know him. If we dont know him we cannot know the Father and his purpose for us. Knowledge of Christ demands humility; intellectual and spiritual humility for he reveals himself to little children than the proud.

Let us pray

Look with favour, Lord God, on our petitions, and in our trials grant us your compassionate help, that, consoled by the presence of your Son, whose coming we now await, we may be tainted no longer by the corruption of former ways. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

HAPPY NEW MONTH!
