WITNESSLINE DEVOTIONAL DAY 2

THEME:
REBUILDING THE BROKEN WALLS

Nehemiah 1:4-11 – Nehemiah’s Prayer

_Now it came about when I heard these words, I sat down and wept and mourned for days; and I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven._

*MEDITATION*

*Beloved, if we must rebuild our broken walls today we must look at what Nehemiah did; there are some strategies used that are very essential in our time. One of such today.*

*We must fast and pray:* As soon as Nehemiah got the news that his hometown of Jerusalem was in ruins. The walls protecting it had been pulled down. The city gates had been burned. The people were unprotected from marauders that roamed the countryside, robbing and looting (Neh.1:1-3). In verse 4 the bible says that Nehemiah sat down and wept, and mourned for days, fasting and praying before the God of heaven. Anyone who wants to rebuild his fallen walls must first of all fast and pray. The place of fervent, persistent prayers in rebuilding our broken wall is strongly advocated (Neh. 1:4). The reason our walls are shattered and broken into is because we disconnected from praying. In praying Nehemiah sought the Lord’s guidance and so he found favour with the king who allowed him to go and rebuild the walls. Today the Christian’s life has fallen because we failed to pray. If we do not pray we shall be preyed upon. Jesus throughout his earthly life never toyed with prayer. in Luke 11:1 the bible says Jesus says prayed in a certain place. In fact Luke set out to teach that Jesus was a man of prayer. Luke 3:21 when Jesus was baptized he prayed. Luke 5:16 Jesus often would slip away to the wilderness to pray. Luke 6:12 Jesus spent the whole night in prayer. Luke 9:18 Jesus prayed before Peter’s profession…, in Luke 9:28 before the transfiguration Jesus took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. Luke 22:32 Jesus prayed that the faith of his disciple will not fail. Beloved in Christ, Jesus was a man of prayer; we must be men and women of prayer. In praying we keep watch, Matt24:43 says understand this: If the homeowner had known in which watch of the night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. Our walls have been broken down because we neglected prayer; if we must raise this wall we must go back to prayer.

Lord, I know you are merciful. I’ve been taught that you provide grace and mercy in spite of my behavior and in spite of my sins. You are a good God that comes to those that need You, no matter what. And Lord, I need you now in my life more than ever. I know that I’m not perfect. I know that my sins are not hidden from you. I know that, at times, I sin knowing it’s a sin. I’m human, Lord, and while that’s no excuse, I know you love me despite my human nature.

Lord, I need you today to provide for me. I need your grace in my life to provide strength because I am weak. I face temptations every day, and I wish I could say that I always walk away. I cannot do it alone anymore. I just can’t. I need you to give me the strength and provide me with the guidance to overcome these desires to sin. I need you to give me direction in darker times when I wonder if I can even face the next day. You can move the mountains that block my way in life. You can give to me what I need in my life.

Please, Lord, I ask of you to come into my life and offer your grace. I am open to it and ready to accept it. Allow my heart to always be focused on You and make my desire to live for You. Lord, I know from the scripture that your grace is bestowed no matter what, so I just ask for it today. I may not always be perfect, but I strive to be better. Lord, help me be better. Help me see the clear, narrow path in front of me so I can walk in your ways and in your glory. In your name,

Beloved, if we must rebuild our broken walls today we must look at what Nehemiah did; there are some strategies used that are very essential in our time.

_7 Memory verse:
Neh. 1:19 But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official and Geshem the Arab heard about it, they mocked and ridiculed us. “What is this you are doing?” they asked. “Are you rebelling against the king?”
