HOMILY FOR THE FEAST OF THE CONVERSION OF ST PAUL, APOSTLE (25/1/2021)

Acts 9:1-22; Psalm 116; Mark 16:15-18

The Apostle Paul is one of the best-known figures in the Bible. The letters he wrote thousands of years ago are still vital for us today. Before his conversion he persecuted the early church, whom he considered to be dangerous heretics. He arrested and imprisoned them, and was even present at the stoning of Stephen. The first reading recounts the moment when the Lord himself appeared to Saul on the road to Damascus. This became the turning point in his life. His name changed from Saul to Paul.  Though it was common for the Jews of the time to have a traditional Jewish name and a Roman equivalent, and so we have Saul and the Roman equivalent is Paul. Beyond that his conversion was true. His behavior changed and he became a missionary for Christ. Beloved, we are redeemed in order to produce. God has called us so that we can call others. Paul became steadfast in this regard. Precisely because of this, the gospel tells us that Jesus gave the Eleven authority and sent them out to preach. Beloved, as you go about your daily task manifest true Christian spirit and be a soul winner.

For the sake of His sorrowful Passionhave mercy on us and on the whole world. O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of Mercy for us, I trust in You.

God bless you!
