Hebrews 11:32-40, Psalm 31 and Mark 5:1-20
The demon-possessed man possessed weird strength. The gospel says he wrenched chains apart and roams around causing disorder because no one could subdue him. The man had strange strength. This story tells us something about Samson. Except Samson’s strength came from the Lord and this man’s strength came from demons. The problem was that people tried to subdue this man with their own strength. No one can subdue any demon by physical strength. We cannot bring down satanic kingdoms by our own power. The best way to win spiritual battles is to rely on the Lord through faith. The first reading of today tells us that through faith our ancestors conquered kingdoms. God will provide something better for us.
Let us pray
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.
