HOMILY FOR THURSDAY THE FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME (4/2/2021)

Hebrews 12:18-19, 21-24; Psalm 28; Mark 6:7-13

The first reading describes Mount Zion. In biblical usage, “Mount Zion” often means the city rather than the hill itself. It is the place where Yahweh, the God of Israel, dwells (Isaiah 8:18; Psalm 74:2). Zion is heaven. Faith leads us to Mount Zion, our true homeland. In the gospel, Jesus sent the disciples out two by two with the message of repentance.  He also enjoined them to avoid distractions. We too are to avoid distractions: financial, emotional, and the likes. Lastly, we are to preach the same message to others so that all of us can come to Mount Zion – the dwelling of the Most High God.

Let us pray

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
