Hebrews 13:1-8; Psalm 27; Mark 6:14-29
The first reading and the gospel reading present us with eight principles for a fruitful Christian life. 1. Let mutual love continue 2. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers 3. Remember those in prison and those who are ill treated 4. Let marriage be held in honour and undefiled 5. Keep your lives from the love of money and be content with what you have. 6 Have faith in God he is the same yesterday, today and forever. The gospel reading completes it: 7 no matter how hard we try we cannot behead the truth 8 We must not make rash promise or give rash judgment.
The Church celebrates the memorial of St. Agatha today, she was born in the 6th century and she was popularly known for her dedication to God despite the torture and severe attack she got from suitors who wanted to defile her and marry her against her will. Beloved, for every true Christian the body may be broken but no force on earth and none in hell can take away our will. The eight principles for a fruitful Christian life may seem difficult to keep but don’t forget “where there is a will there a way”. God bless you.
Let us pray
Lord I am weak, I am very helpless and I am only human, help me to serve you. Amen.
