HOMILY FOR SATURDAY THE FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME   MEMORIAL OF STS PAUL MIKI & COMPANIONS, MARTYRS (6/2/2021)

HEBREWS 13:15-17, 20-21; PSALM 23; MARK 6:30-34

The first reading calls us to have confidence in our Church leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over us as those who must give an account. Often times we fill our Church leaders are not doing much and they do not deserve our allegiance. Beloved no one takes the ministerial honour upon himself. Therefore, if we must enjoy their covering we must submit to their authority and watch. You cannot benefit the grace you have denied. Still on this theme; the gospel speaks of our responsibility as congregants. We must join our leaders in the spread of the gospel. Evangelization is a divine mandate that has been laid on us all.

Today the Church honors the 26 Martyrs of Nagasaki, a group of native Japanese Catholics and foreign missionaries who suffered death for their faith in the year 1597. They were not priests, but engaged in missionary activities even to the point of offering their life for the spread of the gospel. Beloved, we must wake up to the burden that is in the heart of the Father – to ensure that all come to the knowledge of the truth and be saved.

PRAYER

My Father and my God,   give me a humble heart to yield to your instructions at all times, so that I can prosper. Help me to obey you and let me be flexible for Holy Spirit’s guidance. Teach me to be obedient to the Church leaders and follow the examples of the saints. Let me follow when you lead, and help me to receive the blessings you have ordained for me since the foundations of the world. Amen.
