HOMILY FOR TUESDAY THE THIRD WEEK OF LENT YEAR 1 (9/3/2021)

DANIEL 3:25, 34-43; PSALM 25; MATTHEW 18:21-35

“Let our sacrifice to you today be a contrite soul and humbled spirit”. Azariah stood in the heart of the fire, and prayed. Hope we can pray in the midst of crisis and suffering?  Azariah spoke to God from within the furnace and asked God for mercy. Similarly, the Psalmist prays “Remember your mercy, Lord.”  Beloved, if God must remember his mercy we too must be merciful. Today’s gospel makes us to understand that in order for us to be forgiven we must forgive. If we do not forgive our God will not forgive us. Beloved, to err they say is human but to forgive is divine. It means that forgiveness is not a business of human thinking but a function of those in the Spirit. Thus, a canal mind may not see reasons to forgive but a spiritual mind will always forgive because it functions not as man would think and judge but as God wills. Forgiveness is something that everyone needs, eager to receive and very hard to give.

LET US  PRAY

May your grace not forsake us, O Lord, we pray, but make us dedicated to your holy service and at all times obtain for us your help. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
