HOMILY FOR MONDAY THE FIFTH WEEK OF LENT YEAR 1 (22/3/2021)

DANIEL 13:1-9, 15-17, 19-30, 33-62; PSALM 21; JOHN 8:1-11

“Susannah and the elders” Beloved, God defends the innocent. In the first reading the two judges have become infatuated with Susanna and lied to save themselves while Susanna was condemned to death. She asked for God’s help and God saved her. Similarly, in the gospel we see another woman about to be stoned for committing adultery. Jesus saved her and asked her to sin no more. In both instances those who had themselves sinned were quick to condemn others while covering up their own wrong doings. Susanna was not guilty the woman in the gospel was guilty but God saved them all. Beloved, God is not interested in the death of a sinner rather let them turns from their sins and live. Therefore, let us not condemn a fallen hero or plot to destroy others integrity. We are all at the mercy of God. Rather than condemn let us help each other to grow.

LET US PRAY

O God, by whose wondrous grace we are enriched with every blessing, grant us so to pass from former ways to newness of life, that we may be made ready for the glory of the heavenly Kingdom. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
