HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE FIFTH WEEK OF EASTER YEAR 1 (7/5/2021)

ACTS 15:22-31; PSALM 57; JOHN 15:12-17

Love one another as I have loved you. This is not a burden, an impossible task, but an invitation to the fullness of love and life that Jesus lived. Again, Jesus says “I do not call you servants any longer … but friends.” Moses and the prophets were known as ‘servants of God’ but Jesus calls us his friends. Thus, Christ invites us into a deeper relationship with him. In the first reading, Paul and Barnabas listened to the voice of the Holy Spirit. To listen to the Holy Spirit means to hear and obey. It means, to keep his commandments.

LET US PRAY

Grant us, Lord, we pray, that, being rightly conformed to the paschal mysteries, what we celebrate in joy may protect and save us with perpetual power. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
