HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE FIFTH WEEK OF EASTER YEAR 1 (8/5/2021)

ACTS 16:1-10; PSALM 100; JOHN 15:18-21

“Servants are not greater than their master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.” Following Jesus also means sharing his lot, being rejected and even hated by ‘the world’ because our values are different. As Christians we should be ready to face persecution. Everybody will not love you and don’t try to please everybody – even Jesus was not loved by everybody, he had oppositions and haters. Goodness sometimes offends people. So, we must be brave. In the first reading, Paul was persecuted for the sake of Christ but that  did not stop him from carrying out his work. Persecution, oppositions or haters should not stop us from doing what is right and ideal.

LET US PRAY

Almighty and eternal God, who through the regenerating power of Baptism have been pleased to confer on us heavenly life, grant, we pray, that those you render capable of immortality by justifying them may by your guidance attain the fullness of glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
