HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE SIXTH WEEK OF EASTER YEAR 1 (15/5/2021)

ACTS 18:23-28; PSALM 26; JOHN 16:23-28

Jesus said to his disciples, “Very truly, I tell you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.” Beloved, Jesus is the only authorized name for prayers and worship. Many names are trending today in Christendom. We must guard against idolatry and we must not take God’s name in vain. The name of Jesus is sacred and holy. Acts 4:12 it is the only name that assures salvation. In the first reading, Apollos demonstrated from the scriptures that Jesus was the Christ. Beloved, Jesus is the Christ – the saviour of the world there is no other god.

LET US PRAY

O God, whose Son, at his Ascension to the heavens, was pleased to promise the Holy Spirit to the Apostles, grant, we pray, that, just as they received manifold gifts of heavenly teaching, so on us, too, you may bestow spiritual gifts. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
