ACTS 25:13-21; PSALM 103; JOHN 21:15-19
In the gospel Jesus asked Peter the same question thrice. Probably because he wanted Peter to hear himself profess his love. He wanted Peter to be deeply conscious of what he was professing. Often times we engage in mere recitation without deep consciousness of the words used. We could say “Jesus, I love you! All I have is yours. Yours I am. And yours I want to be. Do with me, whatever you will.” Very often we recite this prayer without keen attention to the deep meaning it conveys. The same applies to other prayers and hymns in the Church. Beloved, if we know the true meaning and implication of what we profess, pray and sing we shall be humbled. If we know the implication of saying “Jesus I love you” then we shall realize why men like Peter and Paul were ready to die for the gospel. Genuine love is sacrificial not artificial.
LET US PRAY
O God, who by the glorification of your Christ and the light of the Holy Spirit have unlocked for us the gates of eternity, grant, we pray, that, partaking of so great a gift, our devotion may grow deeper and our faith be strengthened. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
