ECCLESIASTICUS 35:1-12; PSALM 50; MARK 10:28-31
“Give to the Most High as he has given to you.” The first reading calls us to honour the Lord with generosity. Do not appear empty-handed in the Lord’s presence; for all these things are due under the commandment. A virtuous man’s offering graces the altar, and its savour rises before the Most High. A virtuous man’s sacrifice is acceptable; its memorial will not be forgotten. Beloved, let us make our offering just. We know how God has blessed us. What is our financial strength compared to the offering we give? They are either acceptable or abuse God’s presence. Let us learn how to give. The Bible says in 2 Cor. 9:7 God loves a cheerful giver. Do you give cheerfully or in a reluctant and resentful manner. Cheerful giving is selfless giving. In the Gospel, Christ encouraged selfless giving and he says “whoever has left everything for the sake of the gospel will be repaid”. God rewards selflessness.
LET US PRAY
Grant us, O Lord, we pray, that the course of our world may be directed by your peaceful rule and that your Church may rejoice, untroubled in her devotion. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
