2 CORINTHIANS 11:1-11; PSALM 111; MATTHEW 6:7-15
The gospel presents us with the Lord’s Prayer. This prayer encompasses the past, present and future. It is both a prayer and a pattern for all prayers. Our prayers therefore must be patterned after this divine model. No doubt, we are used to praying in different ways but we must not relegate the importance of this prayer. In Fact, the Church teaches that this prayer is the best form of prayer. Again, this prayer makes us to understand that forgiveness is closely linked with prayer. When we ask for forgiveness in prayer we are directly implicated. If we do not forgive; we shall not be forgiven. Like the people of Corinth in the first reading we must know that this is the right message and anything contrary to this should not be followed.
LET US PRAY
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
