2 CORINTHIANS 11:18, 21-30; PSALM 34; MATTHEW 6:19-23
Jesus says “store up for yourselves treasures in heaven” (Matt. 6:20). Jesus linked this command to the desire of our hearts: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matt. 6:21). Beloved, we must learn to avoid obsessive accumulation and treasure Jesus the most. When Jesus is our treasure, we will commit our resources (money, time and talents) to His work. Friends, let us seek the kingdom of God first, live a simple life, take risks that honour God and help the poor. These features were seen in the life of St. Paul in the first reading yet he expressed his weakness which demonstrates his absolute dependence on Christ. Therefore, to ‘store up treasure for yourselves in heaven’ is to depend on Christ. Paul’s greatest treasure was Christ. Who is your treasure?
LET US PRAY
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
