GENESIS 23:1-4, 19, 24:1-8, 62-67; PSALM 106; MATTHEW 9:9-13
Jesus says to Matthew “follow me” the same way he said to Peter and Andrew, “follow me” to James and John “Follow me”. To follow him is a call to discipleship – a divine office that requires sincerity. Just as Abraham’s servant in the first reading followed Abraham’s instruction and found a wife for Isaac. That is how we shall find our destiny if we follow Jesus. Lastly, the Scribes and Pharisees murmured against Jesus because of his association with a sinner. Jesus ceased this opportunity to teach them. ‘I am a physician and Matthew is sick’. Every sinner is sick and needs healing; Jesus is the Physician that heals and saves. Little wonder, the Greek Philosopher Epictetus says the teaching of Jesus is the medicine of salvation. As we heed his teaching may we be healed and saved. Amen
LET US PRAY
Father, You call Your children to walk in the light of Christ. Free us from darkness and keep us in the radiance of Your truth. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
