HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE FIFTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR 1 (12/7/2021)

Exodus 1:8-14, 22: Psalm 123; Matthew 10:34-11

In the gospel Jesus gave us the criteria for worthy discipleship.  Firstly, we must love Jesus more than, parents and children. He says “He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” Therefore,  we must  love God above all things. Secondly, we must take up our cross and follow him. Jesus says “he who does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.” Therefore, to be worthy of him we must carry our cross at all times. Lastly, we must do  good. Jesus says “whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones… will be rewarded and he whoever receives you receives me”. To be worthy of him, we must do good. These demands appear so hard but these are what make men worthy of the divine. God bless you!

PRAYER

Lord, the sacrifice of your son is a precious gift. I don’t deserve it, and I could never have earned it. Thank you for your grace and mercy. Thank you for breaking the chains that kept me in bondage to sin. Thank you for the freedom I now have in you. I want to follow your example as your disciple. Help me to take up my cross.
