HOMILY FOR FRIDAY NINETEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR 1 (13/8/2021)

Joshua 24:1-13; Psalm 135; Matthew 19:3-12

The Gospel presents us with the theme of marriage. Marriage is a covenant of love that demands us to return love for love. Sacrificial love not artificial love. Christ is pretty clear that marriage is indissoluble in spite of the circumstances. Christ speaks against divorce and exhorts us to embrace the challenges of our status. This may seem impossible; but it is the will of God. In the face of present difficulties; either celibate crisis or marital challenges all over the world, we pray for more grace to be able to obey God’s will.

LET US PRAY

Heavenly Father, grant us the strength to hold fast to our vows. When we got married we promised to love, honour and cherish each other as long as we both shall live. And so we ask that you teach us to love the way that we should, with patience and kindness, forgiveness and grace. Amen.
