Jonah 4:1-11; Psalm 86; Luke 11:1-4
“You pity the plant, and should not I pity Nineveh, that great city?” With these words God demonstrated his love for the city of Nineveh to Jonah. Jonah intrinsically desires the destruction of Niniveh, regardless of his proclamation. Isaiah 55:8 says; “…God’s ways are not our ways”; in Ezekiel 18:23 the Bible makes us understand that God is not interested in the death of a wicked man, rather let him turn from his evil ways and live. Lastly, today’s psalm reminds us that God is slow to anger and rich in mercy. Beloved, if God is slow to anger it will be dangerous for us to be quick to anger. Therefors, let us learn the divine ways just as the Gospel invites us to learn the Lord’s prayer.
Let us pray
O Lord, you are good and forgiving, full of mercy to all who call to you. Give ear, O Lord, to our prayers and save us from the punishment our sins deserve. Amen!
