HOMILY FOR TUESDAY THE 30TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B (26/10/2021)

Romans 8:18-25; Psalm 126; Luke 13:18-21

Today’s gospel presents us with two parables: the Parable of the Mustard Seed and the Parable of the Yeast.  The mustard seed is small but grows into a big tree. It does not become a big tree overnight. Be patient, with time you shall grow higher, bigger and greater. Similarly, bread is flat unless yeast is added to make it rise. Continue to labour, God shall bless you with increase. Beloved, do not be discouraged with humble beginnings. St. Paul says in the first reading that the sufferings of this present life are nothing compared to the glory which is to be revealed at our resurrection. Similarly, today’s Psalm says; “Those who are sowing in tears will sing when they reap.” There is no growth without hardship and struggles. Therefore, we must learn to work and be patient for the manifestation of God’s kingdom.

LET US PRAY

Father, you have called us to grow in grace and to increase in wisdom. Help us to conquer all factors against our growth and by the power of the Holy Spirit may we grow higher, greater and bigger in Jesus’ name. Amen!
