HOMILY FOR MONDAY THE THIRTY SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR 1 (8/11/2021)

Wisdom 1:1-7; Psalm 139; Luke 17:1-6

Today’s gospel gives us three basic messages; “do not cause others to stumble”, “forgive beyond measure” and “have faith”. My emphasis shall be on forgivness. Jesus says;  “if the same person sins against you seven times a day, and turns back to you seven times and says, “I repent”, you must forgive.” With these words Jesus tells us that we must forgive those who have done wrong to us if they come back and seek forgiveness. Would I describe myself as a forgiving person? Do I forgive myself? Do I forgive others? As Christians, forgiveness is our business. If we do not forgive we betray the cross of Christ. No doubt, forgiveness is difficult but we must continue to encourage ourselves to imbibe the culture of the righteous. In this light, the first reading exhorts us to be upright. We pray for the grace to forgive those who trespass against us. Lord, increase our faith.

LET US PRAY

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
