HOMILY FOR FRIDAY THE FIRST WEEK OF ADVENT YEAR C

Saint Francis Xavier

Isaiah 29:17-24; Psalm 27; Matthew 9:27-31

Isaiah speaks about the coming of the Messiah and the reign of a better life in his days. He says that the lowly will be raised up, evil men will be silenced and shame will be removed. Jesus is the fulfillment of this prophecy; he was born to save us from sin and shame. In today’s Gospel he restored the sight of two blind men by reasons of their faith. He removed the shame of blindness and ignorance from them. An encounter with Jesus would liberate us from physical and spiritual darkness. Let us approach him in faith for our own restoration, enlightenment and salvation. Saint Francis Xavier, Patron of African missions and propagation of the faith, pray for us.

LET US PRAY

O God, who through the preaching of Saint Francis Xavier won many peoples to yourself, grant that the hearts of the faithful may burn with the same zeal for the faith and that Holy Church may everywhere rejoice in an abundance of offspring. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
