Luke 11: 5-13
After Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He drew their attention to the need to be importunate in their prayers. Drawing insights from this, we too should imbibe the habit of praying above all manner of discouragements. The situations around us should not stop us because, doors are opened at our persistence.
We can find the stages of prayer in the following words: “ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and the door shall be opened to you”. When pressed with a need, we mostly stop at the first stage of prayer. It takes the importunate to complete the rest stages – seek and knock.
There are concomitant graces obtainable at every stage of prayer. At the stage of ASKING we can only receive. If we SEEK further, grace will take us to where the desired treasures are laid . When we KNOCK, the door to the treasure depot will be opened to us and all we need will be at our disposal.
In all, Jesus discourages laziness in prayer. Luke 18:1 says; “men ought to pray and not to faint “. Do it yourself attitude is also encouraged. ” for everyone that asks shall receive “( Luke 11:10a). Do not depend on prayer contracts who charge you handsomely in order to pray to you. God’s ears are open to our prayers.
In prayers we mostly ask for mundane things to be expended on our lust and this is one of the reasons our prayers are not heard. The Father gives us what is good for us and the Holy Spirit is all we need.
Lord, we ask as your disciples did that you teach us to pray by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
