HOMILY FOR FRIDAY THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II (MEMORIAL OF ST. THOMAS AQUINAS) 28/1/2022

2 Samuel 11:1-10, 13-17; Psalm 50; Mark 4:26-34.

Jesus used different parables to speak to the people about the kingdom of God. Today’s gospel presents us with one of such parables – the Parable of the Mustard Seed. Mustard seed is small but produces a big shrub – with one faithful believer the whole world can start believing. Beloved, do not be discouraged by your humble beginning. If you remain in God, you will grow higher, bigger and greater. We can’t grow if we don’t resist temptations. David’s fall started at the sight of Uriah’s wife. Men of stardom must control their sights and minds.

Today the Church celebrates the memorial of St Thomas Aquinas, he spent much of his time discovering the light of Christ; when eventually he found it, he sustained the light and transmitted it. Thus, he says it is “better to illuminate than to merely shine.” Beloved, the Kingdom of God can truly grow if we shine and illuminate others and places.

LET US PRAY

Almighty Father, through the intercession of your saint – St. Thomas Aquinas, the patron saint of universities and schools, grant that all your children in various universities and schools all over the world will continue to grow in light, spare them from the darkness of the enemy, spare them from the lies and practices of bad friends. Father, keep them in the path of light, enlighten their minds with the grace to remain faithful to you and teach them to discover and appreciate wisdom in their studies. Amen.
