HOMILY FOR MONDAY THE FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II (31/1/2022)

Memorial of St John Bosco, Priest

2 Samuel 15:13-14, 30, 16:5-13; Psalm 3; Mark 5:1-20

The demon-possessed man possessed weird strength. The gospel says he wrenched chains apart and roams around causing disorder because no one could subdue him. The problem was that people tried to subdue him with their own strength. No one can subdue any demon by physical strength. We cannot bring down satanic kingdoms by our own power. The best way to win spiritual battles is to rely on the Lord through faith. On the other hand, the first reading presents us with the fall of David’s kingdom. Absalom declares himself king and organized a revolt against his Father David. David had to run for his life. Beloved, deal with rebellion. This is different from disobedience. When we disobey we simply do not carry out what we are instructed. When we rebel, we purposely do the opposite of what we are told. St John Bosco, pray for us.

LET US PRAY

Father, have mercy on us and through the Holy Spirit help us to be submissive to you in every situation. Give us strength to resist demonic forces. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
