Wisdom
“Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.” Our attention is drawn to shepherds that is, spiritual and temporal leaders. Like a shepherd a leader must care and fend for his followers. Without leaders the society will be in disarray. With bad leaders we are still going to suffer same. Therefore, like Solomon in the first reading, every leader should ask for wisdom. Without wisdom power and authority will be abused. Wisdom is more than gold. By wisdom St. Agatha whose memorial we celebrate today was able to keep her body despite the torture and severe attack she got from suitors who wanted to defile her and marry her against her will.
LET US PRAY
May the Virgin Martyr Saint Agatha implore your compassion for us, O Lord, we pray, for she found favor with you by the courage of her martyrdom and the merit of her chastity. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
