James 5:9-12; Psalm 103; Mark 10:1-12
James speaks on “patience in suffering.” He urges believers to maintain an attitude of patience in suffering. James says “consider those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen the outcome from the Lord. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.” Do not give up on God in the midst of suffering. Lastly, James discourages us from false vows; he says let your “Yes” be yes, and your “No,” no, so that you will not fall under judgment. Jesus continues with this theme in Gospel. Jesus says divorce is wrong in the eyes of God; if we are sincere with our vows then we shall be patient in the days of suffering. This is not to condemn anyone but to challenge us to appreciate marital unity in sickness and in health; richer or poorer.
Let us pray
Father, help us and save us. Fill us with your spirit and help us to prevail over the powers of darkness. Teach us to persevere and come to victory through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
