DEUTERONOMY 4:1, 5-9; PSALM 148; MATTHEW 5:17-19
Moses said to the people: Keep these laws and observe them that you may have life and may enter and take possession of the land that the Lord the God of your fathers is giving you. Obedience to the law was to determine their fate. Obedience to the law is important for a healthy civil society and a salvation. Where laws are not respected disorder becomes the order of life. Jesus knows the paramount place of the law and so he tells us in the gospel that he has not come to do away with the Law of Moses and the teaching of the prophets but to complete them. Therefore, like the Israelites if we must possess eternal life we must keep the laws and teach others to do the same.
