ISAIAH 42:1-7; PSALM 27; JOHN 12:1-11
Isaiah’s prophecy in the first reading mirrors Christ’s passion. Today’s gospel presents us with the first scene of his passion. Jesus says “I tell you most solemnly, one of you will betray me.” Betrayal is the violation of a person’s trust or confidence. It comes from those you relate with. Ps.41:9 Even my best friend, the one I trusted completely, the one who shared my food, has turned against me. People betray others because of excessive ambition, greed, lust or passion. Beloved, are we guilty of betrayal today? We betray Jesus when we don’t stand for the truth. Again, we are told that a woman named Mary anointed the feet of Jesus and Judas was in a huff over such kind gesture. Often times we envy other peoples’ generosity. Let us guard against betrayal, envy and corruption.
Let us pray
Grant, we pray, almighty God, that, though in our weakness we fail, we may be revived through the Passion of your Only Begotten Son. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
