HOMILY FOR THURSDAY TWELFTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR

2 KINGS 24:8-17; PSALM 79; MATTHEW 7:21-29

King Jehoiachin and his people fell into the hands of the Babylonians because they turned away from God and no longer trusted him. We endanger ourselves when we turn away from God. We expose ourselves to the enemies each time we refuse to pray. When we fail to trust in God fear begins to stir our lives and hopes. In order to remain victorious, we must stay connected. Similarly, in the gospel Christ calls us to build our house on the solid ground for stability, solidity and safety. The Word of God is the solid ground, faith and trust in the Word of God make us wise, and in the days of storm and flood we shall stand firm.

Let us pray

Father, amidst the trials in our days may we not lose heart. By the power of the Holy Spirit make us strong and healthy. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

My hope is built on nothing less

Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame,

But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;

All other ground is sinking sand,

  All other ground is sinking sand.
