HOMILY FOR MONDAY: FOURTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME  4/7/2022

Hosea 2:16-18, 21-22; Psalm 145; Matthew 9:18-26

Hosea 2:16 says; “In that day, declares the Lord, you will call me ‘my husband’; you will no longer call me ‘my master.” This explains God’s relationship with his people – Israel. His relationship is one of undying love. On the basis of this love the Lord declared his intention to marry Israel for ever. An intention that explains God’s covenant to be with us forever. Beloved, God is with us, He assures in Deut 31:8 that he will go before us and he will be with us; he will never leave us nor forsake us. Therefore, do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

The gospel further illustrates this eternal love in the restoration of the life of the little girl and the healing of the woman who had suffered from hemorrhage for twelve years. God never abandoned his people. Sorrow may last for years, it may last for a night but joy comes in the morning.

Lastly, no shortcuts exist to the top of a palm tree. Therefore, like the Jarius and the woman with the issue if blood, we must exercise faith, perseverance and trust in Jesus in order to enjoy his everlasting love.

LET US PRAY

Father, have mercy and save us. Help us to respond actively to your undying love despite the circumstances of our lives. Amen.
