HOMILY FOR MONDAY THE THIRTY-SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Monday of the Thirty-second Week in Ordinary Time

Titus 1:1-9; Psalm 23; Luke 17:1-6

Many people who crave for leadership position do not know the actual state of things ahead of them. Many nations are suffering today because of bad leaders. The Bible says Provb 29:2 that when the righteous is on the throne the people rejoice but when the wicked man is on the throne the people suffer. If we must recuse ourselves from the torment of bad leaders we must look out of the qualities mentioned by St. Paul (Titus 1:1-9).

Talking about these qualities, Paul  says a true leader must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. He must not be overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the truth and refute false doctrine

From the gospel Reading we can equally infer that a good leader must not cause others to stumble he must forgive beyond measure and he must be a man of faith.  In fact these qualities or features are equally the necessary character of a good Christian. Therefore let us encourage ourselves to imbibe the culture of the righteou

LET US PRAY.

Father, through the Holy Spirit empower us to prevail over all sorts of false doctrine. And give us leaders after your own heart. AMEN
