HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY THE THIRTY THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II

USE YOUR GIFTS

Apocalypse 4:1-11; Psalm 150; Luke 19:11-28

“Holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come.” The first reading discusses God’s majesty and the adoration given to him by the heavenly host. The four living creatures serve as a representation of the four Evangelists, and the visuals employed serve as their symbols. The lion represents Mark, the ox represents Luke, the man represents Matthew, and the eagle represents John.

This apocalyptic writing was not to induce fear but to give hope to those Christian communities who were being persecuted because of their faith. Therefore, as we going through the book of revelation we should maintain am optimistic attitude rather than fear

The subject of the Gospel reading is the talents that we have been given. These gifts should not be hidden, abused, or misused. God wants us to be productive with the various gifts we have received. In the Gospel, the slave with one talent acted out of fear and buried his talent. Fear is a destructive factor in our Christian faith. Fear attacks our potentials and renders us improbable, helpless and feeble.

In the Gospel acclamation Jesus says; “I chose you from the world that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should abide”. Beloved, are you productive? Let us learn to use our talents for the good and salvation of all. Refusal to make use of these gifts amounts to evil, rejection of God’s kingship, death, and eternal damnation.
