THE BOOK OF LIFE
Rev. 20:1-4, 11-21:2; PSALM 84; LUKE 21:29-33
According to the first reading, God will judge the dead. The names of individuals who lived a life of faithfulness will be recorded in the book of life. In contrast to the idea of a physical conflict held by some Christians, the images of the release of the dragon and the great battle of Armageddon are used to inspire Christians to be faithful. To be enlisted in the book of life we have to be faithful here and now.
Jesus declares in the gospel that “heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away”. Beloved, Jesus’ rule is eternal, and his words are timeless. Let’s heed his advice and decide what is worthwhile and what is merely passing. If we follow his instructions, we will rule with him when he returns. If we abide by his instructions, we won’t fear his second coming but rather anticipate it with gladness.
LET US PRAY
Lord Jesus, help us to keep your words. We want to be more righteous, more loving, and more forgiving. Correct us and lead us to do your will. Give us the wisdom to overcome the darkness of this day. Amen.
