Humble Faith
Isaiah 2:1-5; Psalm 122; Matthew 8:5-11
The centurion in today’s gospel expressed a humble and sincere faith in Jesus and his word. He said to him, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my servant will be healed.” Do we still believe in the healing power of Jesus? How much faith do we still express in his word? Have we become overconfident? Or do we now have a cocky attitude? Conscious of our weaknesses let us learn to approach the Lord in simplicity and humility.
Today’s psalm says “I rejoiced when I heard them say: ‘Let us go to God’s house.’” Only those who have faith in God’s word will rejoice at the mention of God’s house. How do we react each time we are invited to God’s house? Do we find the Church boring or interesting? If we find it boring; then we must examine our faith.
Lastly, Isaiah in his vision present us with a message if cleansing and protection. The Lord will washed away the filth of the daughter of Zion and cleansed Jerusalem of the blood shed in her. Thereafter Isiah 4:6 makes it clear, that the Lord shall be our refuge. God is clearly our refuge and sheltering place during life’s storms. He is our safe haven during trying times. And when life gets too much, we turn to Him for safety. David was fully aware of this when he required a hiding place from Saul.
LET US PRAY
Keep us alert, we pray, O Lord our God, as we await the advent of Christ your Son, so that, when he comes and knocks, he may find us watchful in prayer and exultant in his praise. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
