HOMILY FOR TUESDAY THE SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT:

Isaiah 40:1-11; Psalm 96; Matthew 18:12-14

Like the lost sheep in the Gospel reading we all have the tendency to stray away from the right path. In attempt to seek greener pastures, extra power, fame, and wealth many of us have strayed away from the right path.

Many strayed while seeking for miracles or solutions to their problems. Isaiah 53:6 says “We all like sheep have gone astray, each one has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”

But we have a compassionate Father who is willing to save and restore us. The first reading brings a message of comfort and redemption from the Lord. It points to the coming of Christ.

Isaiah says “the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and he rules with a mighty arm. His reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him. He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

Beloved, this God is a shepherd, caring and loving. He announced that He is both powerful and gentle, able to comfort as well as defend. He is interested in us and there is joy in heaven when we repent.

LET US PRAY

Almighty Father, have mercy and forgive us, lead us in the path of light that shines onto the perfect day. And may no darkness or hatred take over our minds. Amen!
