Friendship with God
GENESIS 3:9-24; PSALM 89; MARK 8:1-10
After the fall, Adam and Eve were expelled from Garden of Eden. Disobedience disqualifies us from God’s friendship. Jesus says in John 15:14 “You are my friends if you do what I command you.” Beloved, God wants us to be with him. Friendship with God is a beautiful thing and he has made his friendship fully available to us.
Jesus expressed this friendship in the Gospel reading. He said to his disciples “I have compassion for the crowd, because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat.” Jesus is the true friend who cares and shows genuine compassion.
We are quite familiar with the hymn “There’s not a Friend like the lowly Jesus” Jesus knows all about our struggles; He will guide ’til the day is done: There’s not a Friend like the lowly Jesus: No, not one! no, not one!
Jesus knows our struggles and he desires to be with us. Let us keep his word so that we may continue to enjoy his friendship in this world and forever in the next.
LET US PRAY
Keep your family safe, O Lord, with unfailing care, that, relying solely on the hope of heavenly grace, they may be defended always by your protection. Amen
