HOMILY FOR SATURDAY THE SECOND WEEK OF LENT YEAR 1 (11/3/2023)

We Must Rise

MICAH 7:14-15, 18-20; PSALM 103; LUKE 15:1-3, 11-32
Micah prays to the Lord saying “Have pity on us one more time”. Beloved, God hears and forgives us whenever we cry to him for mercy. He is the Lovely Father who never fails to welcome a repentant sinner. The gospel reading using the parable of the Prodigal Son further buttressed this attribute of God. Oftentimes, we turn away from God and abandon our inheritance in pursuit of lust and temporal goods. Like the Prodigal Son we come to that point in our lives where we realize our nothingness without God; where we discover that we have displaced our treasure for pleasure and separated from our true habitation. Therefore, this season of lent is a period we must rise and go back to our Father who is always ready to forgive us. If we don’t rise now; we may not have the time to rise later.

LET US PRAY
O God, who grant us by glorious healing remedies while still on earth to be partakers of the things of heaven, guide us, we pray, through this present life and bring us to that light in which you dwell. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
