Jesus foretells his betrayal and denial
Isaiah 49:1-6; Psalm 71; John 13:21-33, 36-38
In the first reading, we see the Second Song of the Suffering Servant of the Lord. This Suffering Servant of Lord in the Prophecy of Isaiah is Jesus Christ. He is the Light of the nations that has brought the dawn of the Lord’s salvation to the ends of the earth.
In the gospel, Jesus – the Light of the nations was at supper with his disciples, but became troubled in spirit and foretells Judas’ betrayal and Peter’s denial. Between Peter and Judas there are some similarities and differences. Jesus once referred to them as devils Matt.16:23 and Jn.6:70-71. Judas betrayed Him (Luke 22:48). Peter denied Him (Math.26:70-74). Peter repented; Judas did not. We all have sinned but repentance makes the difference. Let us repent of our sins and stand as the light of the nations. On this Holy Tuesday let’s repent from every evil plots in our heart.
LET US PRAY
Almighty ever-living God, grant us so to celebrate the mysteries of the Lord’s Passion that we may merit to receive your pardon. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
